Kuala Besut

Day 25Kuala Besut (28/08/2015)

“Even in the dirtiest of places, beauty can be found.” – Caleb’s wise words of the day

The next destination on our plan was George Town, so we took the speedboat back to the main land. This time it was much better. The driver didn’t drive stupid so it was a nice, fast and smooth ride. Back on the main land, in Kuala Besut, we went to the “travel agency” that sold us the boat tickets. That girl who is working there is really great. She cares so much about everyone, she even still knew where on the Perhentians we stayed at. Unfortunately there was no bus to Georgetown anymore except the night bus and Caleb didn’t wanna take that. We had no choice than staying in Kuala Besut for one night. The girl started looking for a hotel room for us. She recommended “Nan Hotel” so we agreed. The problem was that it was Friday so most of the Muslims were at the mosque, including the staff of Nan Hotel, which meant for us that we couldn’t check in before 4 o’clock. We got to the agency at 12 o’clock so we were waiting for a really long time. When it turned 4, the hotel staff called her and said that they will not make it before 5. Caleb and I were out of nerves, all we wanted was a bed, a shower and air conditioning. After all the waiting we decided for another hotel, it was pretty ridiculous.

The owner of “Ain Budget Hotel” picked us up and we finally had a room. It was really expensive, RM 98 but the room was pretty nice. You know, “nice” is not the same anymore as it used to be back in Europe. 🙂 We were so tired from sitting around so the first thing we did was taking a shower and then we took a nap.

When we woke up we were hungry but we were so not in the mood for Asian food. We really like the Malay food but it’s just always the same. We can’t even hear “Nasi Goreng” (Fried Rice) and “Mee Goreng” (Fried Noodles) anymore. But because Kuala Besut is a really small and conservative village, there was no Burger King, Pizza Hut, Mc Donald’s or KFC. That’s the places we were dreaming of.

We went to the beach and it looked like there will be a nice sunset so we just walked along the beach. It was one of the ugliest beaches we have ever seen, there was so much trash. But there were also a lot of shells and starfish and whatever the waves brought to the beach. Caleb and I had like a competition with finding pretty things. We couldn’t stop looking for the best piece. It was fun and so interesting to find all those beautiful things. The sunset turned out to be one of the nicest ones we’ve seen so far on our trip.

We couldn’t decide where we wanna have dinner at. We were walking up and down the street, just to end up on the beach again, where we finally sat down and got food. Caleb had to wait really long for his burger. I was done with my curry for about ten minutes when Caleb finally got his food. It was the biggest burger we have ever seen. It was easily 18 cm (7 inches) tall.
